Policies, Bylaws and Ordinances

In order to make the principles stated in the preamble of the Board of Trustees bylaws effective and to fulfill the mission of the university, the Board of Trustees has established policies for the direction of Michigan State University. The policies set forth the Board's position on issues that are vital to the university.

Bylaws Provide the general framework for the organization, administration, and operations of the university or one of its colleges, units, departments, or other organizational structures.

The Board of Trustees of Michigan State University adopts ordinances that provide for the care, preservation and protection of the property governed by the Board, for the security and well being of persons on said property, to promote the University's successful operation, to maintain good order, and to ensure against undue interference with the lawful activities of persons coming upon land governed by the Board.

Academic Programs is the listing of academic programs, policies and related information. Course Descriptions is the course listing. Together, they comprise the Michigan State University catalog.

 

University-Wide Bylaws

Bylaws Provide the general framework for the organization, administration, and operations of the university or one of its colleges, units, departments, or other organizational structures.

 

Guidelines

Non-binding recommendations published with the intent of encouraging a particular group of people to take a particular course of action.

 

Handbooks/Manuals

A reference document (sometimes called a "Manual") that provides information about how to implement, interpret, and comply with a policy.
